The 2008 Formula One season was a closely contested battle between Ferrari's Felipe Massa and McLaren's Lewis Hamilton for the drivers' championship. Massa won six races and led the championship going into the final race in Brazil, but Hamilton managed to finish fifth to secure the title by a single point over Massa. Ferrari had a strong season overall, winning eight races and taking the constructors' championship with a 21-point lead over McLaren. Along with Massa, Kimi Raikkonen also had a solid season with two victories, finishing the championship in third place. The season was also marked by the return of former Ferrari champion Michael Schumacher, who briefly came out of retirement to replace the injured Massa at the European Grand Prix.
